Ancestors || Neurographica Collection

They are still here. In the lines. In the roots. In you.

Vertical lines like roots or threads. Figures in yellow and black, moving through a pale, quiet field. Red accents, rare and deliberate. Ancestors is the most austere work in the neurographic series — and perhaps the most haunting. Ink and watercolour on paper.

I started painting this without any outcome in mind. By the middle of it, i started to look at it as a healing process. And by the end of it, every stroke i did, i did it with all the women from my family in mind. Feeling their pains, sorrows and struggles they went through. It was a difficult process, but i hope i justice to all the love the women before me put in their families, just to make it thourgh another day. I doesn't have to be beautiful, but always believe that something better will bloom. And i hope i am worthy enough to cary with me my ancenstors' love, courage and pride. 

Some feelings don't have names. The sense of being accompanied by people who are no longer here. The weight of everything that was carried before you arrived. The particular silence of a lineage. Ancestors was drawn from that place — from the moment when you feel the invisible threads connecting you backwards through time, and you understand that you are not the beginning of the story.
